There was plenty of courage on show in Islandbridge today as the Giants suffered our second defeat of the 2012 Premiership campaign. The team was still undermanned but the game did see the return of Martin Fitzpatrick, Sean Fallon and big Jonas.
The early signs were positive as Tom Cleary goaled off the very first bounce, but the Demons then scored five on the bounce before Fergal Condron the Giants second. The second term proved very even as both sides notched 1.1, with the Giants goal being another from Cleary.
The third quarter saw a dominant midfield performance and again an even quarter even though we shaded it on goals, Ross Dack and Jonas opening their accounts for the season. The Demons were clearly rattled and a big performance was demanded of them in the final quarter.
The Dublin side delivered too, particularly John Enright who kicked some vital goals to achieve an unassailable lead, with the Giants only managing one in response from Derek Gilbert.
All in all, a big improvement on the last day, but a bigger squad is required to close out games like this in future.
